AMARILLO BY MORNING

Actually, been there done that, we are now in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Since I was too busy having fun to post a blog during our two day stay in Amarillo, I decided to post some photos of our visit although it is now recent history.

First a little background on this trip from the start. It was starting to get hot in Bossier City (where we park while visiting family) and on Thursday August 6th we began our "escape the heat" adventure.  Day one got us to Destiny RV Resort, near Denton, Texas. No escape from the heat there! There is a lot of construction on I35 in that area and it is a nightmare to get around in the heavy traffic with numerous detours for exits! Once we parked we only wanted to rest up for the next leg of our escape.

Friday morning, August 7th, a long day of travel across northern Texas. We took Hwy 380 off I35, then 287 all the way to Amarillo. Cheryl was fascinated with the windmill farms along the way. I was amazed and regretful that I drove for over 7 hours! We checked into Oasis RV Resort for a two day stay. Here are some of the pictures from our visit:

When we arrived at Oasis Rv Resort, first thing we noticed was this motorhome which apparently tried to leave without paying the bill!

Later Cheryl found Elvis hanging out at the Cadillac Ranch!

I found the Gornicke family bus from "RV the Movie". I was looking around for Robin Williams!

We had a great time at the Cadillac Ranch and Sizemore RV Museum. We found a lot of "artifacts" in the museum that we still remember using back in the day.

We had a blast in Amarillo before we left for Albuquerque, New Mexico on Sunday morning. We made it in about four and a half hours. I hardly ever drive over 60mph and we take frequent breaks. I will try to post more of our escape from the heat adventure later. It is getting to be my bedtime after a busy day of sight seeing and it will be a travel day tomorrow.

God Bless us all.....
